2006 Sylvain Cathiard Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Aux Thorey (France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru) Burghound, 1/1/2009, 1st Quarter, 2009, Allen Meadows (web) 91 Moderate wood spice frames earthy red berry fruit aromas that are wonderfully fresh and expressive if not airy while leading to admirably rich and dense medium full flavors supported by a fine mix of power and depth on the solidly long, mouth coating and persistent finish. This is really a terrific effort for a first vintage and worth a look too. (drink starting 2014)

2006 Domaine Sylvain Cathiard & Fils Nuits Saint Georges Aux Thoreys  Good medium red. Red fruit aromas of cherry, redcurrant and raspberry lifted by a floral element. Supple and suave on entry, then seamless in the middle, with floral and mineral notes giving the wine excellent life in the mouth. A bit less obviously sweet toward the back, finishing with substantial dusty tannins. 91
