John Gilman View from the Cellar 93
2002 Camille Savès Champagne Brut Millésimé Grand Cru (France, Champagne, Bouzy, Champagne) View From the Cellar, 7/1/2010, Jul/Aug 2010, John Gilman 93 The 2002 from Camille Savés is a beautiful example of the vintage that is now quite open and drinking simply splendidly. The deep and refined nose offers up scents of apples, baked peaches, bread dough, a beautiful base of soil and orange zest in the upper register. On the palate the wine is elegant, full-bodied and shows of superb purity and depth, with excellent focus, brisk acids, fine, pinpoint bubbles and outstanding length and grip on the complex and perfectly balanced finish. This is a terrific bottle of vintage Brut that only lacks the extra dimension at the core to compete with the finest Tête de Cuvées in ’02, but in all other respects this is as good as it gets in this superb Champagne vintage. (drink 2010-2025)

2002 Camille Saves Grand Cru A Champagne Blend Dry White Sparkling wine from Bouzy, Champagne, France Source Reviewer Rating Maturity Current (Release) Cost Wine Advocate # 192 Dec 2010 Antonio Galloni 94 Drink: 2010 - 2020 The 2002 Grand Cru is fabulous. The wine literally explodes from the glass with intense, heady perfume and vivid layers of Pinot fruit. Clean, vibrant mineral notes add a sense of proportion and balance through the mid-palate and into the finish. This is a Champagne of incomparable finesse and elegance that captures all of the splendor of Bouzy. Needless, to say, it is highly recommended. The 2002 is 75% Pinot Noir, 25% Chardonnay from vineyards in Bouzy with an average age of 25 years. Dosage was 10 grams per liter. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2020. This is an impressive set of wines from Camille Saves. The estate is located in Bouzy, a village famous for its Pinot Noir. These wines make a wonderful introduction for readers new to the Champagnes of Bouzy. Even better, the wines remain reasonably priced considering the quality of what is in the bottle. Interestingly, despite their richness, none of the wines at Saves undergo malolactic fermentation as these vineyards in Bouzy provide more than enough stuffing on their own.
